Information & Visa Requirements for Cambodia

A visa is required for all foreigners wishing to stay in Cambodia. However, Cambodia has some of the most flexible visa regulations for foreign tourists, expatriate professionals, and retirees looking to visit and live in Cambodia. Whether you are a tourist or a resident, a visa is necessary for short or long-term stays in Cambodia. If you have not applied for an e-Visa in advance, visa applicants upon arrival must submit a passport, application forms, a recent passport photo, and other documents determined by the type of stay. We will explain all of this to you:

. TOURIST VISA (TYPE T)

The tourist visa is designed for travelers planning to stay for 30 days or less. The 30-day tourist visa can be obtained in advance or upon arrival.

  • Entry Option: Visa on Arrival (VOA) or e-Visa (electronic visa)
  • Duration of Stay: 1 month (single entry)

ExtensionThe tourist visa is for single entry only and can be renewed once in the country for an additional 30 days. At the end of the additional 30-day extension on your tourist visa, you must leave Cambodia and re-enter to obtain a new visa.

                                                                                    __________________________________________

. BUSINESS VISA (TYPE E) These visa extensions can be issued for 1, 3, 6, or 12 months.

If you plan to stay in Cambodia for longer than a month, a Class E visa is a better option. While initially valid for only 30 days and costing around $35 (depending on your nationality), this visa can be extended for additional periods indefinitely.

  • Duration of Stay: 1 month (single entry)
For your first visa extension, before your initial 30-day visa expires, you can use an agent to apply for an EB, ER, ES, or EG extension visa
EB VISA EXTENSION

The EB visa concerns expatriates working in Cambodia, their partners and children, self-employed individuals, and volunteers. Applicants are required to provide a stamped letter proving their employment with a Cambodian company. This visa extension is renewable; however, only the 6 and 12-month visa extensions allow multiple entries.

If you are self-employed and have a registered business in Cambodia, you can write a letter confirming your own employment. Note that the EB visa does not automatically grant you the right to work. To be legally employed, you will need a Cambodian work permit and work card issued by the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training.

Feel free to let us know if you would like more information on Cambodian work permits, work cards, as well as setting up a business in Cambodia, or refer to the article on this site “How to Do Business Registration in Cambodia 2024”.

Spouses and children of EB visa holders must submit the visa holder’s work letter. The letter should state that the company supports the spouse’s EB application as a dependent who does not work and include the passport information of dependents. You will also need to provide proof of your relationship to the visa holder to renew your own visa extensions.

. ER VISA EXTENSION

The retirement visa extension is for expatriates who have reached retirement age. You simply apply for ER (retirement) extensions. Here are the requirements:

  • You must be 55 years or older.
  • You cannot be employed.
  • You must be able to prove retirement status and have sufficient funds.

These extensions can be valid for various durations up to one year with multiple entries. This ER visa does not allow you to work in Cambodia, for those wishing to work or operate a local business, a business visa is required.

. ES VISA EXTENSION

The ES visa extension is a student visa. ES visa extension applicants must provide a letter from a registered Cambodian school as well as documents demonstrating sufficient funds to support themselves.

. EP VISA EXTENSION

The EP visa is issued to foreign who are in Cambodia and:

  • Seeking employment: Suitable for those who have arrived in Cambodia and are actively searching for a job.
  • Considering starting a business: Allows you time to explore the business landscape and complete any initial steps for establishing a company.

The EP visa is valid for one month and can be extended for up to two additional months, for a total maximum stay of three months. It is important to note that this visa does not allow you to work in Cambodia.

. EG VISA EXTENSION

The EG visa is designed for those seeking employment in Cambodia. If you have already had an EB visa extension, you are unlikely to receive an EG visa as they are not intended for expatriates who have been in the country for an extended period. The EG visa is reserved for new visitors to Cambodia.

Extensions’ available for various durations:

  • 6 months
